OUR HISTORY

While working for a major oil company from 1987 to 1996 one of the frequently asked questions was---what can I do with my waste oil.

After I left the company I was approached by a large company about a lubrication problem with furnace conveyor chains.

Waste oil was the solution so I started asking questions among my past customers and in 5 days I had over 6000 lts promised.

The conveyor chains needed about 1000 lts per week.

Next problem---what to do with the rest?

A bloke that I used to work with at Savage River was 2ic at a Tasmanian lime works and he said that they would take any oil that I could provide.

They use waste oil as furnace fuel to break down the limestone.

I started Tasmanian Oil with an F100 light truck towing a trailer {3 tonnes per trip}.

It wasn't long before the F truck had changed into a small Isuzu flat tray.

The business grew till I was delivering a load a day so the little Isuzu became a bigger Isuzu an ex fuel company tanker carrying 15000 lts per trip.

A small pickup truck in Hobart and runs to Launceston meant that the business was now truly statewide.

About 2005 a semi tanker was purchased to be used as extra storage.

That tanker was put back on the road in 2010 and a prime mover was purchased.

The Isuzu was still used to pick up oil and the semi used to deliver it {31000 lts} per trip.

In 2011 I was asked by another company if I could supply about 90,000 lts as they had a supply problem. Through a contact In Adelaide I secured supply, there was simply not enough oil in Tasmania.

So for the next few months, as well as the Tasmanian pickups and deliveries I was travelling to South Australia to bring oil back to Tassie for this second customer. That requested 90,000 lts {3 loads} turned into well over 50 Adelaide trips !!!A driver was now needed for the Tasmanian side of the business. Fast forward a year or 2 And I was asked if I could supply a lime works at Atunga {near Tamworth} in NSW. 4 deliveries at 3000 kms per run later I subcontracted the Adelaide\Tamworth job to a south Australian operator and came home.

By now the business had outgrown the shed at home so we moved to a Wynyard industrial premises. Another semi tanker had joined the fast growing fleet as had a tautliner. There was a demand for properly cleaned 2nd hand 1000lt IBCs. As the pod side of the business grew a second tautliner was added.

An updated pickup tanker was purpose built in late 2016 and the ever reliable Isuzu given a well earned rest.

With age dictating that I slow up and with retirement looming My son joined the business in 2017.

Wynyard very quickly became two small so in 2018 we moved to a larger premises in Burnie.

Also in 2018 a second Prime mover was added along with a third Tautliner.

2019 and still growing thanks to the enthusiasm of the younger generation.

Large capacity bulk storage tanks.

2 more prime movers added and we now have built the only mobile plastic recycling unit in Tasmania, and arguably in Australia, fitted to one of the tautliners.
